At Goodyear, I was employed during the summer and Christmas academic breaks from Mississippi State University as a general service mechanic to earn some additional funds and to compliment my education in mechanical engineering.  This position entailed that I perform basic mechanical work on all makes of cars and trucks such as oil changes, tire repairs, tire balancing, new tire mounting, battery installations, etc.  While working on these vehicles, I was able to absorb design concepts in engines, framework, and accessories. Assisting in engine overhauls, I acquired a firm understanding of their internal components and the respective functions that they serve.  I also performed alignments, gasket replacements, brake system overhauls, transmission serivce, A/C service, coolant system service, and the installation of various parts such as alternators, water pumps, and power steering pumps.
